With Chaos in Her Wake: Treason
15/02/10 || Trauma
With Cherries On Her Cake hailz from the land of tea and crumpets, home of Napalm Death, Carcass, Bolt Thrower, and to a lesser degree, Benediction. Notice how all four of those bands came about in the 80s. I don’t readily think of many U.K. bands carrying the flag when it comes to metal these days. This band isn’t going to change my stance, either.
Allow me to explain a bit. It comes down to two very simple reasons: drum-sound and vocals. Wait, make it three things: drum-sound, vocals, and boring songwriting. There are far too many times where there is so much of NOTHING going on that is interesting that when they decide to hold a couple chords here and there you get this feeling of “WTF, CAN I HAS MUSIK?”
And holy shit the vocals get very, very fucken tiring. I hate two different layered vocals. Whoever is doing the low growls is okay, but they layer on this higher shrieking or butt/emo growling and begins to be completely irritating since it is throughout each and every goddamn song on this album. Emo growling… what in the fucken fuck, guys? You really thought this sounded good? After going back through it once more for posterity’s sake I realize this is not too far removed from fucken metalcore, or metalcore seems to shine through.
And for the love of fuck, how hard is it to make drums sound like drums? If I didn’t know any better it sounds like a really shitty drum machine.
There’s really not much more to say about this music. It’s serviceable if you’re looking for fairly uninteresting and weak death metal.
